How does paypal work when receiving money?

I'm opening commissions for my art and i was wondering how i go about receiving the money, like do i give the person my e-mail address?

There are a couple ways you can get the money. You could request the amount, and then they can pay the request. You can also give them your email address, which is your paypal address, and they could just transfer you the money.
